I was diagnosed with stage IV Melanoma. I had surgery to remove 28+ 1 lymph nodes and as follow up care, I have been pursuing alternative viralotherapy with a drug called: RigVir for the past three months. My latest scans show that the cancer has spread to other lymph nodes. I am looking into going on KeyTruda (I’ve heard very good results with it – and a friend was recently cured from his cancer). I’m also considering using KeyTruda with RigVir as a double benefit. It feels to me that “other” tumors are growing at least based on the sensation in my legs.

Thank you very much for contacting us with your concerns regarding your recent diagnosis of melanoma. My heart goes to you as it must have been a very long journey since your journey in November.

Let me preface to you that I am a big believer in offering hope and making decisions that are medically sound and financially reasonable. Hence the dilemma with the melanoma drugs that are known to be fairly expensive. However, I also caution against hype and unproven treatment options. RigVir, and despite what companies might lead you to believe about results in Latvia, is still not a proven option, particularly in your case. There has been only one report that was retrospective in nature (meaning a chart review study that does not hold a lot of scientific weight) suggesting benefit in early stage melanoma. This is not what you have. Because we do not have a doctor-patient relationship nor have I reviewed your records, I cannot advise you on what to do with RigVir but I am outlining to you the data so that you can make an informed decision.

Regarding Pembrolizumab (KeyTruda), it is an antibody against PD1 and has received a lot of attention recently with its effect in melanoma. It is approved for first line treatment among other options such as nivolumab (a cousin of keytruda with a different mechanism) and other targeted therapies. A full review of your records including the mutation status of BRAF by an experienced melanoma specialist (through our service or any other service that you would like) to suggest the best option would be beneficial in my humble opinion.

Sorry again to hear about your diagnosis and have a blessed day.
