Endometrial cancer is also known as uterus cancer and starts in the uterus. It occurs when cells start growing abnormally. Usually, endometrial cancer is discovered at early stages which increases the chances of a successful treatment for the patient.

Obesity, age, diabetes, estrogen exposure, family history of endometrial or colon cancer and the use of an intrauterine device are amongst the factors that increase the chances of endometrial cancer.

Vaginal bleeding is amongst the most common symptoms, which urges the patient to visit her doctor thus assisting the early detection. Pain during urination or during the act of sex and pelvic pain are also common symptoms.
A pelvic examination, ultrasound tests, an endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy are used to diagnose and stage endometrial cancer.

Depending on the stage of the endometrial cancer and your age different treatment methods may be used. Surgery to remove the uterus is one of the most commonly used methods. Radiation therapy is also used and it can be performed with a machine out of your body or inside your body. Hormone therapy is usually chosen when the endometrial cancer has metastasized to other parts of the body. Chemotherapy is yet another method used to treat endometrial cancer.
