If someone is diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer who never had a Pulmonologist, shouldn’t they be referred to one, or would an oncologist become their primary Doctor, no Pulmonologist needed?

Thank you very much for contacting us with your concerns regarding stage 4 lung cancer.

In the absence of another lung condition such as asthma/ COPD complicating the lung cancer, there is no reason to involve a pulmonologist. However, should the patient require pulmonary testing or procedure, your oncologist will refer them to a pulmonary physician for further care.

Thank you and I hope this helped. Have a blessed day.
